Message to our Community
The Brookings Police Department has always been deeply connected with our community and we are devoted to continuously strengthening our bond. We value strong communities ties by ensuring that every person has the right to be treated with respect, dignity and fairness. We want our actions to “speak louder than our words”. Here are the actions we are committed to:
1) Strengthening our Community Outreach Unit that is focused on citizen and officer collaboration, transparency and trust.
2) Continuously evaluating our policy and proactively seeking ways to improve our procedures.
3) Continuing to hold ourselves to the highest standards and pledge to the highest ideals of just and effective policing as we have done for the community of Brookings in the past, as we do today, and will continue to do in the future.
We are proud to call Brookings our home and look forward to working with our community members to find ways to best serve our great City.

Police Department response to COVID-19
These are unprecedented times. With that, the Brookings Police Department is taking steps to provide safety and security to our community while also taking care of our employees.
Temporary steps are being taken related to police work such as investigating and documenting non emergency reports over the phone, having 911 dispatchers ask COVID-19 related questions, and limiting the public’s access to our police lobby.
These temporary protocols are being evaluated daily as we continue to bring residents, businesses and visitors the highest level of service.
Video i-Witness - The Brookings PD introduces the new Video i-Witness program. Under this program, citizens can register their exterior home security cameras with us and become part of a security camera database. If we have a crime committed in a neighborhood we can then check the database to see who has security cameras in that neighborhood that may have captured evidentiary video. These types of videos have proven to be very helpful to us as we seek to identify a perpetrator. Click on the Video i-Witness link for more information
Click Safety Town for more information on the program.
