Safety Town

What is Safety Town?Safety Town

Safety Town is an early childhood education program designed to introduce a variety of safety conditions to children ages 5, 6 and 7. During the 10-day course, children learn safety behavior through their own involvement. They do this by role-playing in simulated and actual life situations under the guidance of a teacher and a police officer. Safety songs, poems, art projects, stories, movies, and a bus trip, combined with actual practice, make this program a fun learning experience that children eagerly look forward to attending!

Lessons and activities focus on:

  • Pedestrian and motor safety
  • Poison safety
  • Fire safety
  • Stranger danger
  • Water safety
  • Weather safety

Safety Town is sponsored by the National Safety Town Center in cooperation with the Brookings Police Department.
