On Saturday, June 30, the Brookings Fire Department will be assisting the Brookings Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department with establishing a new prairie grass area on the hill on the north side of Dakota Nature Park on 22nd Avenue S. In order to establish the prairie grass in this area, the Brookings Fire Department will be lighting fires to burn the thatch and unwanted weeds beginning at 9:00 am, weather-permitting. Citizens are asked to avoid this area until this phase of the park work has been completed. It is anticipated that this phase will be completed in one day. The park will likely be re-opened in the near future for use until the next phase of construction begins.
