[ARCHIVED] Street sealing to begin July 30, 2012

The Brookings Street Department will be sealing streets with oil and rock starting Monday, July 30, 2012 (weather permitting). Streets and avenues to be sealed will include:

• The area south of 20th Street S (Valley View, Esther Heights, Blue Gill Additions)
• East of 22nd Avenue (Eastbrook, Sunrise, etc.)
• 22nd Avenue south of 20th Street South
• Orchard Drive (from Medary Avenue to 22nd Avenue), and the industrial area around Daktronics

Residents who live on streets scheduled for seal coating should not park anything (vehicles, trailers, boats, RV’s, etc.) on their street from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., until their street has been covered with rock. Also, do not water lawns or drain sump pumps onto the streets during seal coating. Streets need to be dry in order for the seal coat to adhere.

Drivers are encouraged to drive slow, be cautious of the equipment, trucks and employees. Bicyclists and motorcyclists should exercise extreme caution when using these streets. It would be best to select alternate routes during this time in order to avoid delays.

If all goes well, the project will probably be completed by August 3, 2012. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Street Department at (605) 692-2016.
