[ARCHIVED] Camelot Drainage Improvement Project Update

The Camelot Square Drainage Improvement Project has been continuing with construction on Christine Avenue. This project includes the improvement of the storm sewer system, sanitary sewer main extension, water main adjustments, sanitary and water service adjustments, unclassified excavation, removal of asphalt, curb and gutter, driveway approaches, sidewalk, installation of storm sewer, base course, curb and gutter, concrete driveway approaches, and asphalt surfacing. Bowes Construction, Inc. is the General Contractor and Civil Design, Inc. is the project engineer working on behalf of the City of Brookings.

Starting Monday, September 17th, the contractor is scheduled to close the intersection of 12th Street South and Christine Avenue for approximately two weeks. The storm sewer box culvert has been installed on Christine Avenue up to the intersection of 12th Street South. The contractor will need to close the intersection of 12th Street South to construct a large storm sewer junction box. Traffic is encouraged to use alternate routes during this time. The contractors will open the intersection as soon as possible after the junction box is backfilled.

The contractors will be continuing with construction of curb and gutter, driveways, fillets and valley gutters on Christine Avenue between 15th Street South and Yorktown Drive. Unfortunately, all of the boulevard trees along the west side of Christine Avenue required removal due to major tree root systems being cut during excavation, and to make adequate room for construction equipment when installing box culvert.

Drivers are urged to drive carefully through the area and to follow the road closure signage, especially with the increase of school traffic and pedestrians.

We encourage people to check the City of Brookings website for updates on this project and other city projects using the link below.

We appreciate the public’s patience during construction of this important project. Please call City Engineer Jackie Lanning or Assistant City Engineer Thad Drietz at (605) 692-6629 for more information.
