The Camelot Square Drainage Improvement Project has been continuing with construction on Christine Avenue. This project includes the improvement of the storm sewer system, sanitary sewer main extension, water main adjustments, sanitary and water service adjustments, unclassified excavation, removal of asphalt, curb and gutter, driveway approaches, sidewalk, installation of storm sewer, base course, curb and gutter, concrete driveway approaches, and asphalt surfacing. Bowes Construction, Inc. is the General Contractor and Civil Design, Inc. is the project engineer working on behalf of the City of Brookings.
Starting Wednesday, October 10, 2012, the intersection of 12th Street South and Christine Avenue is open for traffic. The intersection currently has gravel surfacing with two narrow driving lanes. The public should use extreme caution while driving through the intersection and the construction area and should follow the road closure signage.
The Contractor began placing topsoil behind the curb and gutter along the west side of Christine Avenue. They will be placing asphalt on the west side of Christine Avenue starting at the south end of the project. The Contractor anticipates they will start paving around October 15th for Christine Avenue between 15th Street South and 12th Street South including the intersection of 15th Street South and Christine Avenue. The Contractor will also be installing storm sewer pipe along Christine Avenue to approximately 100 feet north of King Arthur Court, as well as completing curb and gutter, sidewalks and driveways along Christine Avenue.
