In celebration of Dr. King’s birthday, the Brookings Human Rights Commission sponsored a poster contest for Brooking Elementary students, Intermediate School students, and Advance participants, and an essay contest for Brookings Middle School students, High School students, and Advance participants to help students and Advance participants reflect on Dr. King’s ideas and their impact on the community. This year’s theme for the contest was “Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that.”
Mayor Oepke G. Niemeyer will present the winners with their awards at the City Council meeting on Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at 6:00 p.m. All poster entries will be on display at The Brookings Public Library from January 26th through February 28th and essays and posters can be viewed here.
