[ARCHIVED] Mayor's Ride/Walk - Saturday, June 1st

Five graduates of the Brookings Chamber of Commerce Leadership Class 2013, and the city of Brookings will be hosting the Mayor’s Ride and Walk on Saturday, June 1, starting at 10:00 a.m. at the Brookings Activity Center, 320 5th Avenue. The public is invited to join Mayor Tim Reed and city staff for a tour of Brookings by bike or on foot. This event is intended to enhance and promote a community-minded opportunity for walking, biking and running and to encourage healthy physical activity for residents and visitors.

Participants may choose from two routes. The first is a two-mile round trip bike or walk route from the Brookings Activity Center to Hillcrest Park and back. More experienced bike riders may prefer the 10-mile loop, which also begins at the Activity Center, and then connects with the recreational trail in Larson Park before returning. There will be stops along the way for water and restroom breaks and at city parks.

“When we started brainstorming for our class project, we narrowed in on establishing healthy habits at a young age. The Mayor’s Ride event is a perfect avenue to promote healthy activities in our community,” said Emilie Portz, Leadership Class Group Member and Century 21 Realtor.

Mayor Tim Reed states “I am excited for this years Mayor's Walk and Ride. Brookings has fantastic outdoor recreation facilities. I consider the Walk and Ride a kick off to a great summer of healthy activities!”

Following the ride, there will be refreshments, entertainment, and information on area recreational activities in the Activity Center parking lot. If you are interested in volunteering for this event, please contact Emilie Portz, Century 21, 322 22nd Avenue, 605.695.4648, Emilie@century21gka.com.
