[ARCHIVED] ENGAGE BROOKINGS REVEALED AT MAYOR’S PRESS CONFERENCE & PUBLIC DEMONSTRATION

Engage Brookings

The City of Brookings is pleased to announce the launch of Engage Brookings a new comprehensive community engagement website, developed by MindMixer, where citizens can engage, communicate and collaborate with community decision makers and other residents on the future of our community.

Join us at the Brookings City & County Government Center on Wednesday, October 16, 2013. The Mayor’s Press Conference begins at 10:00 a.m. in Community Room 300, and the Public Demonstration begins at 11:00 a.m. in Chambers Room 310.

The goal is to get the community involved in the planning process. Along the way, Engage Brookings will be used as an online tool to generate new ideas and feedback from citizens using this interactive and accessible new platform. Feedback from the engagement website will be used by city employees and officials in order to lay out plans on a variety of projects.

“Open Government is a core value for the City of Brookings. Engage Brookings is a new avenue in open government for citizens to help create the best community possible,” explains Mayor Tim Reed.

Brookings is the first city in South Dakota to implement MindMixer and provide this government transparency initiative to its citizens.

Engage Brookings gives contributors a chance to share new ideas, second others’ ideas, expand upon existing ideas and give feedback on initiatives, working with community leaders on a variety of topics online anytime, anywhere.

The discussion will start with topics like these, and branch off from there based on input:

• If you could change one thing about Brookings, what would it be?

• How do you think the campus and community relationship (town & gown) could be improved?

The site also measures and tracks participation, identifying the most interested citizens and most compelling topics. MindMixer’s tools make it easy for administrations to communicate back with citizens, and they deliver measurable results and invaluable insights for the planning process.

Nick Bowden, CEO of MindMixer, says, “Our tools go beyond just technology. Our mission is to build community contributors. Ideas, voices and perspectives are shared to facilitate deeper and better conversations that yield actionable insights and a stronger community.”

As part of its service, MindMixer consults and collaborates with clients to identify issues that are critical to stakeholders in order to update topics and content for their websites.
