[ARCHIVED] Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Poster & Essay Contest - Winners Announced

In celebration of Dr. King’s birthday, the Brookings Human Rights Committee sponsored a poster contest for elementary students and an essay contest for middle school and high school grades to help students reflect on Dr. King’s ideas and their impact on the community. This year’s theme for the poster contest was “Be the peace you wish to see in the world.” The theme for the essay contest was “As we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington, we would like the students to write a letter to Dr. King describing the impact of that event and what are the continuing civil and human rights issues that need to be addressed.”

Mayor Tim Reed will present the winners with their awards at the City Council meeting on Tuesday, January 28, 2014, at 6:00 p.m. All poster entries and the winning essays will be on display at Sioux River Cyclery, 501 Main Avenue, and the City of Brookings website (www.cityofbrookings.org) through January 31st.
