Construction has begun on the 17th Avenue South. This project is administered and inspected by the local staff of the South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) office. The contractor for the project is Bowes Construction, Inc. The project includes milling the existing street surface, paving an asphalt overlay, pavement markings, replacement of deteriorated curbs, installation of new accessible curb ramps at each intersection along the project route and several driveway approaches, upgrades to the traffic signals, and lane widening at the intersection of 17th Avenue South and 8th Street South.
Bowes Construction will be closing the south side of 17th Avenue South at the intersection of 3rd Street starting Wednesday, May 28th, through approximately Friday, May 30th, 2014. 3rd Street will be open to east and west bound traffic. The contractors will be installing a concrete valley gutter across the south side of the intersection. The intersection is anticipated to be open Friday, May 30th. Property owners between Lincoln Lane and 3rd Street may access their driveways from the south.
Bowes Construction anticipates closing the intersection of 1st Street and 17th Avenue South starting Monday, June 2nd to approximately Friday, June 6th, 2014. The contractors will be installing concrete valley gutters and fillets in the intersection. The intersection is anticipated to be open Friday, June 6th. Property owners between Lincoln Lane and Olwein Street may access their driveways from either the north or south of 1st Street. Detour traffic should use alternate routes.
The City would like to remind the public to be cautious when driving or walking through the project area, especially around work areas under construction. We appreciate everyone’s patience during the project and the contractors will open the intersections as soon as possible.
